Jackson Laskey is the CEO and Co-Founder of Asset Layer. For our series of Blockchain Hustlers, we spoke with him to learn more about the exciting field of cross-application interoperability, open creator economy and NFTs.
Asset Layer is a company that simplifies the creation and integration of NFTs (non-fungible tokens) into various applications and enables the sharing of data between these applications.
Asset Layer sees NFTs as a medium for interoperability, which is essential for the new creator economy. Laskey describes this approach in more detail by taking the popular game Roblox as an example:
‘Look at Roblox as this game where virtually half the content is created by kids… People want to be able to leverage their user base that is passionate about what they’re doing and allow their users and allow other entrepreneurial people in their orbit to add to what they’re doing, expand on what they’re doing, build new digital goods and application content,’ said Laskey.
Showcasing the capabilities of Asset Layer as a Blockchain-as-a-Service platform
Laskey sees blockchain as a medium that facilitates this much more easily than before and even allows content creation across different applications.
He added that Asset Layer solves a pain point for people who want to open up their ecosystem, open up their game to be able to facilitate a creator economy, have more content created for their players and share their IP and their digital assets across an entire ecosystem instead of just one application.
Laskey said that he chose the BSV blockchain because of its scalability and affordability. He mentions that fees are so cheap that they currently pay all the blockchain fees for their customers. To showcase the utility and the user experience in practice, Laskey gave us a lengthy demo. In the video above, we have put together a few highlights of the demo for you.
Duro Dogs demonstration
Duro Dogs showcases how Asset Layer’s NFTs can be easily integrated into different platforms. Laskey also demonstrates user-created applications within Duro Dogs that are interlinked with other applications, which showcases the open creator economy Laskey talked about.
As Laskey explains, Duro Dogs is not the main product of Asset Layer. Rather, it is a sandbox for demonstrating Asset Layer’s capabilities as a blockchain as a service platform, that other people can use to do similar things that we’ve done with Duro Dogs, whether it’s in gaming, consumer rewards, digital media or a ton of other different types of applications.
