BSV Academy's Role in Fostering Blockchain Skills Globally - Panel Discussion Highlights and Initiatives in China, Uganda, Nigeria, and South Africa

Evan Freeman, (Director of Education for the BSV Academy), recently led a panel discussion on blockchain education initiatives by BSV Blockchain. The discussion focussed on specific regions in which the BSV Academy is active – Uganda, Nigeria, South Africa and China.

BSV Academy in China

Li began the panel by discussing her role in advancing awareness of the BSV blockchain and its adoption in China. She emphasised the importance of education due to the widespread misunderstanding of blockchain technology.

Over the past four years, Li’s efforts have included collaborating with the BSV Academy, launching a Chinese language academy course, partnering with local organisations for certification programs, and lecturing at universities to attract students from various backgrounds.

Capital Savvy – Raising awareness in Uganda

Tumusiime highlighted his focus on solving financial inclusion issues in sub-Saharan Africa. Reginald shared insights into their collaboration with the Blockchain Innovation Programme in Uganda, successfully educating 25 entrepreneurs over 12 weeks, emphasising a basic and easy-to-understand curriculum.

The goal is to empower participants to develop blockchain solutions for African challenges. Tumusiime presented Capital Savvy’s plans to create an innovation hub, collaborate, and raise funds for supporting blockchain initiatives.

Centbee – Demonstrating the possibilities of a scalable blockchain

Gamaroff highlighted his company Centbee, a digital cash wallet on the BSV blockchain. Centbee targets young users in emerging markets who seek low-cost digital cash solutions. Gamaroff emphasised the need to educate users about BSV technology, including fees and payment processes. Centbee collaborated with the Blockchain Innovation Programme to facilitate this education.

Gamaroff highlighted the challenges of dispelling misinformation in crypto, which often focuses on speculation and trading. He emphasised the original purpose of BSV for cash transactions and expressed excitement about continuing to use educational platforms to promote the practical use of BSV in daily life. Gamaroff acknowledged the success of initiatives, such as the student incentive program, which incentivises learning and participation.

Learning platform – 5thwork

Nicholas Bierkert presented 5thwork, an online learning platform rewarding students based on their performance. Nicholas explains how 5thwork collaborates with the Blockchain Innovation Program, hosting courses like the Bitcoin Association’s blockchain development course.

Students earn rewards directly tied to their assessment scores, providing them access to BSV without relying on established infrastructure. Nicholas emphasises the importance of enabling students to interact with the blockchain ecosystem, test ideas, and solve local problems.

Government Blockchain Education in Nigeria

Dr Usman outlines NITDA’s role in coordinating the implementation of the national information technology policy, focusing on infrastructure, regulation, and advisory services. He highlights the recent launch of the national blockchain policy and emphasises the importance of digital literacy and skills development.

Dr Usman discusses NITDA’s partnership with the BSV Blockchain’s Innovation Programme to train 500,000 Nigerians on blockchain technology by 2024 and aims to add a million software developers by 2023, aspiring to make Nigeria an emerging technology talent hub in Africa. Dr Usman mentioned the possibility of exceeding the initial target of training 500,000 Nigerians on blockchain technology.

At the end of the presentation, Freeman invited interested parties to take a look at the BSV Academy and join one of the many online courses the BSV Academy has to offer. The BSV Academy is an online education platform for which offers academia-quality, university-style courses and learning materials categorised under Bitcoin in Law, Bitcoin for Software Engineering, Bitcoin for Software Development and Bitcoin for Business in addition to several short courses covering specific concepts and content in more detail.

Freeman demonstrated the issuance of certificates on the BSV ledger for the participants in the Blockchain Innovation Programme in Nigeria. The certificates are fully verifiable globally and can be authenticated both on the Bitcoin Association ledger and a ledger in Nigeria.
