On Wednesday (18 May), London’s top media outlets and influences gathered at Searcys at the Gherkin, for an exclusive dining experience ahead of the London Blockchain Conference 2023.
Hosted by billionaire tech entrepreneur, Calvin Ayre, founder of Ayre Group, and curated by renowned Michelin star chef and co-founder of HIDE, Ollie Dabbous, guests were given a unique opportunity to ‘TRACE’ the journey of hero ingredients, from source to plate, using an innovative application developed by Gate2Chain & IBM, powered by blockchain technology.
A perfect showcase of blockchain
The purpose of the event was to increase awareness regarding the possibilities of blockchain technology and its influence on the supply chain in various industries like food, fashion, and manufacturing. Through a five-course dining experience, Ollie Dabbous and his team, known for their support of local producers and focus on seasonal ingredients, demonstrated how essential elements could be effortlessly traced and documented.
This allowed diners to verify the origin and authenticity of the products they enjoyed. During the event, Gate2Chain also announced a collaboration with Cortana, a high-end Spanish fashion brand, synonymous with ethical and sustainable slow fashion practices.
High praise for the event and the technology
Ayre praised the event and noted how it was an incredible showcase of blockchain’s potential. ‘Ollie Dabbous’s demonstration of the potential of blockchain to revolutionise the way we evaluate food and wine was undoubtedly the highlight of the evening,’ he said.
‘Through the innovative use of blockchain technology and the ‘TRACE’ application, the event showcased how blockchain can bring significant business benefits by promoting greater transparency, trust, and sustainability across the supply chain.’
‘Showcasing the potential of blockchain technology is the driving force behind the London Blockchain Conference. This is set to be the first conference focused on blockchain utility for enterprises and government, rather than a platform to push cryptocurrency agendas.’
This was echoed by Jessica Jaume, Operations & Business Development Manager, Gate2Chain. ‘By demonstrating the benefits of blockchain technology, particularly its ability to provide transparency, traceability, and security through the ‘TRACE’ application, we hope to encourage more industries to embrace its inherent value,’ she said.
