BSV Blockchain is excited to announce a panel focusing on how peer-to-peer tech can democratise music planned for the prestigious SXSW 2023 event in Austin, Texas.

The panel is currently open for public voting and we are asking all BSV Blockchain community members to vote for it so this exciting event becomes a reality.

Titled ‘How Peer-to-Peer Tech Can Democratize Music’ the panel is set to focus on how BSV blockchain can make the current music industry a fairer place for both artists and consumers.

While popular music streaming services were designed to increase listeners’ access to a growing music catalogue, the broader availability of content comes at the financial expense of artists – especially independent creators. Despite efforts to expand benefits to artists whose music is featured at minimal cost to listeners, streaming companies have historically prioritized major labels over independent musicians whose content is critical in driving subscriptions.

With the growing popularity of blockchain as a fundamental tech infrastructure, there is more opportunity than ever for fans and artists to connect beyond traditional listening methods. This includes opportunities to generate diverse and affordable content that doesn’t leave the creators underpaid by major streaming services.

Other major issues which will be discussed on the panel include:

  • Today’s music streaming model limits the revenue potential for independent artists. One major streaming service requires 250 streams for $1 in revenue;
  • There is a growing opportunity for artists to expand and monetize their creative capabilities, such as through audio-minted NFTs;
  • Blockchain’s ability to store, verify and authenticate data will play a critical role in making these opportunities available to creators.
